Rockingham Oval – DHORC Rnds 21/22 - 3Oct10

We have booked the Nightingale Hall on 3Oct10 to re-run the two Rockingham Oval rounds that had to be cancelled earlier in the year.  We will still be using the qualifying times posted in Feb for those that attended. Any new racers will have to qualify on the day.  We also believe, after talking to several members, that we will not use the “Win from any Final” rule but have folk move up from the previous Final as normal. With the Championship consisting of 26 rounds again, 16 rounds will now count. We will also hold an Official Practice session after the race for those who wish to test their cars.

Non Members at Brands Hatch

Former Le Mans China Team member Fred Li (above) returned to DHORC at Brands Hatch pipping Matt Holland in the first of two Adult Non-Member Finals to the win. Fred was over here from Beijing for training on the Trent 900 engine as Lufthansa start to fly the Airbus A380 double deck aircraft to Beijing later this year.

Fred had met Claire Wei and Roy He at the RR canteen during his training so invited them along to DHORC 365. Unfortunately Fred had left by the time they arrived, with Roy beating Claire in Qualifying but Claire getting her revenge in the Final.

All in all our Non-Members had a great time!

New Adult Members

Our double Junior Champion Liam Smith moved up the Adults on Tuesday night while our Le Mans video man Simon Sumner joined DHORC for the first time. And he didn’t take home the Wooden Spoon, a result he must be proud of! Welcome to them both.

15th December 2009

24 Members turned up for our last Official DHORC Test night this evening, with Lee Pateman, naturally, setting the pace. While some racers didn’t set times all had cars prepared in time for the 2010 season.

Bourne Motor Racing Club Evening – 10Dec09

Peter Barber and I made our annual trip to the Red Hall in Bourne, Lincs on Thursday night to run our 11th Bourne Motor Racing Club Evening.

It was a great success with 36 racers attending and Jamie Lawrance (far left below) taking the win.  Thanks to Richard Bostock for inviting us again.

Sichuan Airlines Evening – 2Dec09

Although there were only eight Sichuan Airlines personnel racing on Wednesday night they had a great time, so much so that the team leader asked if we could run another meeting. Unfortunately the room was not available again. We ran 5-minute races to fill up the full hour and a half the evening ran. Thanks to Cliff Roythorne and Phil Rees for their support.

Completion of Fourteen Meetings in 2009

Claire Bullock became our 22nd Member on Thursday night to complete 14 meetings in 2009, meaning another £5 voucher is given away to spend at DHORC.  Thanks Claire

New Members

The last meeting of 2009 saw former Rolls-Royce colleagues of Jamie Sismey join DHORC. Both Ryan Blake and Iain Hall signed up during their second meeting at the Club ahead of a full 2010 season. Welcome to them both.

How Did We All Do in 2009?

The year started with a very healthy 28 racers at the first meeting, and finished with 29 at Round 22 with a maximum 32 racers attending two meetings during the year. This gave us an average of 26 competitors per meeting over the year, the best turn out for eight years!  We also signed up 43 Members, second only to 1996 when we had 44.  It was however the first year that some Members have been banned from the RRLA site, three Juniors not being allowed to return after several misdemeanours, CCTV now meaning there is nowhere to hide!

Ten Members kept up 100% records in 2009 since they started the season, with Martin Allsopp, Alan Bullock, Katie Levers, Lee Pateman & Liam Smith all attending the full 22 meetings.  Martin hasn’t now missed a meeting since he joined the Club 76 rounds ago.  One other notable point being that Phil Rees missed only his fourth meeting since the Club began in 350 rounds!

Of the 43 Members 22 were either new or returning Members, in itself a record while there was a 69.41% turn up rate i.e the percentage everyone turned up once they had joined DHORC.  The total attendance of 581 starters is the second best since the turn of the century but still way down on the early 90’s when we only had a 16 Round Championship!

As covered above Claire’s attendance at Le Mans meant that 22 Members attended at least the minimum 14 scoring rounds equalling the best since the millennium.

Overall the year was very rewarding, as mentioned in the Editorial, the atmosphere was the best it has been in many years with some really close racing, too close at times, especially for Richard James at Le Mans!

BSRT 901 Chassis and End Bells

We should also have a supply of ten new BSRT 901 chassis plus 20 End Bells from ScaleAuto for the 15Dec09 test. First priority will be new Members who get the discount price of £10 for their first chassis, then it is first come first serve for those that remain.

Simon Sumner Our Next Member?

Our Le Mans video man Simon Sumner may well be joining DHORC in 2010, he will be along to the Official Test session to try his hand.  Speaking to Simon recently he advised that he is looking to produce two Le Mans video’s one for those who took part as a record of the event, the other to advertise both the event and DHORC, I can’t wait to see them!

Tracks & Facts 2010

The 130 Page 2010 “Tracks and Facts” Booklet is now available.

This covers all of the stats for the 26 circuits to be used next year as well every statistic imaginable about every Member that has ever race at DHORC since 1992

Rules & Regs 2010

The 2010 “Rules & Regs” Bookley is now also available

AGM 10Nov09

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on

Tuesday 10th November 2009

Meeting started at 1905 hours in The Refreshment Room at the Rolls-Royce leisure association facility.

Attendees:

Martin Allsopp, Peter Barber, Alan Bullock, Martin Chadwick, Tom Chadwick, Richard James, Paul Levers, Roy Masters, Allan McPeake, Phil Rees, Cliff Roythorne, Josh Roythorne, and Nick Sismey.

Apologies:

Jonathon Levers, Dave McPeake, Lee Pateman and Gary Weston.

The minutes of the November 2008 AGM were accepted as an accurate and true record.  Proposed by Cliff Roythorne and seconded by Phil Rees.  There were no matters arising.

Review of actions from 2008 AGM:

General Actions:

Item 8:  A satisfactory solution to the Le Man’s kit-box issues had not been fully resolved.  The system relies on a level of trust.  It was felt that this item cannot be completely controlled but every effort will be made to ensure that the rules are followed.

Item 11:  The Sports Hall was in the process of refurbishment and updating of facilities and this had addressed the lighting and power supply concerns.  The club had arranged for electrical equipment used for the Le Mans event to be PAT tested by an RR leisure association electrician prior to racing commencing.

Item 16:  The Rockingham circuit, and variations of it, are scheduled for the 2010 programme.

Discussion item actions:

Item 3: Le Mans – General Issues

Discussions are ongoing with Michael Block (USA) regarding supply of software to manage the race and an adjustable power pack is also to be supplied by Michael.  The Tomy timers will still be used until a suitable alternative has been developed. And then will still be used as back up. The G3R chassis was trialled and although adopted for club running was not considered suitable for Le Mans; the club will be staying with the Tomy Turbo for the present.

Action: Nick Sismey and Phil Rees

Item 8: Introduction of a ‘Corkscrew’ is not to be proceeded with.

Item 12: Sports Hall

The existing Sports Hall is being refurbished and improved.

Chairman’s Report:

Nick Sismey reported that 2009 had been another successful year with good attendance at club meetings and Le Mans.  A number of previous members had also returned.  Promoting the club had continued throughout the year using the club’s website.  Thanks were extended to Alan Bullock for maintaining the site.  The Le Mans event was a success following the problems encountered last year.

Treasurer’s Report:

In summary it was reported that the club’s balance at the end of the year should be £313, after including income from one remaining corporate event in December, paying out the balance of the club’s 2009 prize money and the cost of new BSRT chassis.

A breakdown of the accounts will be included in the next issue of the DHORC magazine.

Secretary’s Report:

Peter Barber thanked the Chairman for the continued production of the club magazines, which is such a crucial element in the running of the club.  Thanks were also extended to Nick Sismey and Phil Rees in particular, and the committee as a whole, for their continued dedication to the club.

A new issue has arisen on the subject of ‘Child Protection Policy’; see report later in these minutes under ‘Discussion Items’.

Committee:

Roy Masters proposed that all previous committee members who wished to continue in their posts should be re-elected. This was unanimously agreed.

The newly elected committee members are as follows with notes against changes:

Chairman/Treasurer – Nick Sismey (Peter Barber requested that the Treasurer’s role is linked to the Chairman as he maintains the database of day to day running costs; this was accepted)

Vice Chairman – Phil Rees

Secretary – Peter Barber (Relinquished Treasurer title and agreed to continue for one more year as secretary but gave notice that he will stand down at the next AGM)

Race Control – Kevin Lye (Proposed by Alan Bullock in his absence, seconded by Phil Rees, to replace Gary Weston who was standing down from the committee)

Race Control – Paul Levers (Proposed by Cliff Roythorne, seconded by Martin Allsopp as Martin Allsopp was standing down)

Race Control – Martin Chadwick (Proposed by Nick Sismey, seconded by Phil Rees)

HO Scrutineer – Roy Masters (Proposed by Nick Sismey, seconded by Paul Levers as Simon Goodlip was standing down)

HO Scrutineer – Lee Pateman (Although not present he had indicated a wish to continue)

Web Master – Alan Bullock

Media Promotions – As Jamie Sismey is now at University this activity will be included in the website.

Addresses etc for the above committee members are to be published in the club magazine.

Discussion Items:

As normal at the AGM everyone present was asked if there were any items they would like raised for discussion.  The following is a summary of those items raised and discussed.

1. Membership Costs

This subject was raised by Nick Sismey & Peter Barber.  It was proposed to leave the club membership fees unchanged at:

Adults £20 and Children (under 16) £10

£3 for non-members per meeting

Membership of the Rolls-Royce leisure association (RRLA) is mandatory for all non-RR employees.

All non-RR employees must be registered as ‘Leisure Guest Members’.

Following the RRLA AGM in April 2009 membership fees were increased.

The RRLA financial year runs from May 1st to April 30th, which means our membership payments are phased.

The fees for a full year have been slightly increased from 2008, apart from juniors, and they are:

Guest Member £32 (was £31)

Junior Guest Member (non-wage earning and under 18) £10

To minimise costs to members of the slot car club it was proposed, and agreed, to continue subsidising the cost of Adult membership of RRLA by £8 per person resulting in a fee of £24 instead of £32.  Currently, with 12 non-RR adult members, the cost to the club is £96.

It was requested that every effort is made to ensure membership fees are paid promptly.

Action: All to note

2. Rockingham

Phil Rees was concerned that the 2010 race calendar proposes to have 4 Rockingham based races in the Nightingale Hall on each of two separate Sundays (Sunday 28th February and Sunday 3rd October).  This together with other planned ‘oval’ events was considered to be too much in the total race calendar.

Nick Sismey reported that he had booked those dates and the adjacent Saturday for set-up.

The practicality of the 2 weekend events was discussed and which races should count towards the championship.

It was eventually agreed to run the February Rockingham only and 16 race meetings should count towards the championship.  It was also agreed that any non-members could take part in the four Rockingham races and Le Mans club night as Members for a total cost of £10.  Alternatively they could run at the Rockingham event for £5 as non-members.

Action: Nick Sismey to cancel October booking

3. HO Le Mans

a) Motors

Phil Rees had checked the motors used in the race and found some had been advanced.

It was proposed that in future suitably marked standard ‘cans’ are supplied and to allow tuning but not splitting of motors.

Action: Phil Rees to provide suitable marking on the motors. Roy Masters to amend Le Mans rules.

b) Race Control

There were complaints that Race Control was not as good as it could have been during the 24 hour race with inadequate cover at times.  It was agreed that 2 people are required on Race Control at all times.  The criticism was accepted and it was agreed to address this for next year.  It was suggested by Martin Allsopp that Race Control is shared between the two DHORC teams, one covering Race Control and one marshalling at the Ford chicane at all times in order that their roles can be organised more efficiently.

Action: Nick Sismey & Phil Rees to organise.

c) Car Bodies

Paul Levers and Josh Roythorne suggested that it would be nice to go back to the Tomy Group C bodies with rear wings as the only cars to be allowed at Le Mans, which would improve the look of the cars.  After some discussion it was agreed that only Group C and LMP 1 bodies made by Tomy could be used in 2010.  The rear wing could be rubber mounted and carbon fibre strips fitted if the rear wing was damaged during the race.

Action: Nick Sismey to suggest this to Team Captains. Roy Masters to amend Le Mans rules if agreed.

d) Chassis

Cliff Roythorne reported that he had a problem with a bowed front axle and therefore wanted to change the type of chassis used at Le Mans.  After some discussion it was agreed to leave rules as they are as a replacement axle could always be provided.

e) Le Mans Rules

Roy Masters is to carry out a further comprehensive review of the rules for next year as some of the terminology currently used has caused confusion with the American team members.

Action: Roy Masters

4. Club Endurance Championships

Martin Chadwick requested the inclusion of Endurance races in the calendar.  It was unanimously agreed to add 3 races.

Action: Nick Sismey to arrange dates

5. Types of cars

Allan McPeake requested that consideration be given to running one meeting with F1 cars and the next with Group C.  This proposal was put to the vote and it was agreed not to change the current arrangements.

6. Gold and Silver Plated Components

Martin Allsopp requested that consideration be given to allowing the fitment of plated pick-ups to improve car performance.  He quoted that different standards of armatures are allowed so why not other enhancements.  The proposal was voted against mainly because it was considered that the benefits are not noticeable for the increase in cost.

7. Club Nights

Cliff Roythorne requested that the discipline on race nights in respect to marshalling and observing race start times during the evening needs tightening up.  Race Control need to enforce the rules.  It was agreed that at the first 2010 race meeting the opportunity will be taken to remind everyone.

Action: Race Control to note

8. Child Protection Policy

Peter Barber reported to the AGM that back in June 2009 a letter had been sent by Colin Bancroft, the RRLA General Manager, to all sections and club officials, on the subject of Child Protection Policy.  It requested that any club, section or activity that involves children or has children attending must provide RRLA with a suitable Child Protection Policy by Monday 30th November.  Some guidance was offered on the areas that should be addressed.  These included the following:

·                     Named responsible adults to supervise children must complete a criminal record check,

annual certificate to be provided to RRLA.

·                     Responsible adult to child ratio

·                     Changing room supervision at all times – named responsible adults only

·                     Injury and illness – emergency contact procedure

·                     Dropping off and collecting children

·                     Physical contact – necessary clear guidelines and supervision

·                     Sexual activity – between young people and between adults and young people

·                     Discipline – guidelines to teach or reinforce appropriate behaviour

·                     Children or young persons with disabilities

·                     Photography – taking photographs and publicity

Although all of the above may not be applicable to the Slot Car club, most are.

A further letter was sent out in July 2009 to notify a change in the law concerning the introduction of Child Protection Policies from October 2009.  The new measures were introduced to help prevent unsuitable people from undertaking paid or volunteer work with children or vulnerable adults.  Anyone under the age of 18 is considered to be a child/young person.  This measure will be called the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS).

A new government body has been set up called the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

From November 2010 all employees and volunteers who want to work with children or vulnerable adults must be ISA registered.  The VBS and ISA registration does not replace the CRB disclosure process, which still needs to be carried out as before.  ISA registration is currently £64 per person.

The information from RRLA states that it is able to offer practical advice only, any financial costs such as ISA registration, CRB disclosure or separate insurance must be met by each section or club.

Following the receipt of these letters from RRLA, the secretary drafted out a Child Protection Policy for the Slot Car section which has been forwarded by the chairman (Nick Sismey) to Colin Bancroft, the General Manager of RRLA.

The covering letter with the submission raised a number of concerns, the main one being that an individual cannot request a CRB check; they are only available to organisations so application needs to be processed by an umbrella body which is registered with the CRB.  The view expressed by our club secretary is that RRLA ought to be the umbrella body through which all clubs/sections can apply for CRB checks.  Also RRLA should produce a Policy and Procedures for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults so that each RR Club/Section can tailor their policy to it.  It is also considered that RRLA should be responsible for obtaining the ISA registration.

No response has yet been received from Colin Bancroft but any action required will be acted upon.

Action: Nick Sismey and Peter Barber

AOB:

1. Trophies

Peter Barber reminded the committee that all trophies are required to be returned in readiness for the 2009 presentations.  Nick Sismey reported that most were in and he would chase up the remaining ones.

Action: Nick Sismey

2. Thanks

Cliff Roythorne proposed a vote of thanks to Nick Sismey and Phil Rees for their continued dedication to the club resulting in another successful year.

Meeting closed at 21:42 hours and thanks were extended to all those who attended.

Peter Barber

Secretary

Julian Neale Back at Le Mans?

Former DHORC Member Julian Neale, who now works at the “University of Derby” in Buxton, recently contacted me wondering whether they could put in a team for Le Mans as they are looking for some extra curricular activities.

We will be starting preparations for the 2009 Le Mans in June and so will soon know whether we have a spare lane.  I am pretty sure we will be able to squeeze them in.

12th May 2009

DHORC’S 37th Member for 2009 – Josh Roythorne

After racing at three meetings as a Non-Member Josh Roythorne became the third Roythorne to join DHORC on Tuesday night. Welcome Josh, it will be good watching you competing against your dad Cliff Roythorne. They make the third father / son partnership in the 2009 Adult Championship as well as the father / daughter combination of Alan Bullock and Claire Bullock, who missed her first meeting of 2009 on Tuesday night.

Students Galore!

Paul Levers invited four third year University students to Tuesday night’s meeting. They are currently all Year in Industry students at Rolls-Royce, with some of them working with Paul.  As covered in the Race Report Dan Chambers took the spoils, Martin Mills second, Joe White.  Ben Littley only ran in the Finals.  Hopefully we will see them back in the future!

Maximum Numbers

Tuesday night saw our second full house of 2009, with 32 racers running at the tight and tricky Monte Carlo circuit.  It was great to see so many competitors enjoying themselves.

5th May 2009

16 Racer at 1st Official DHORC Test of 2009

No less than 16 racers turned up for the 1st Official Test on Tuesday night, namely Shloke Anand, Peter Barber, Martin Chadwick, Tom Chadwick, Jonathon Levers, Katie Levers, Paul Levers, Allan McPeake, Amy Oxspring, Lee Pateman, Geoff Peach, Phil Rees, Cliff Roythorne, Josh Roythorne, Jamie Sismey, Nick Sismey.  Most clubs would be pleased to see that many racers on a race night so thanks to all for attending, I am sure many of you are now much better prepared for Monaco next week.

28th April 2009

New Member – Amy Oxspring

After just one race as a Non Member Amy Oxspring became a fully paid up Junior Member on Tuesday night.  Amy’s stepfather is also into slot car racing, so you never know he may also attend when work permits.

Jonathon Levers Blitzes Finals

Jonathon Levers was keen to reverse his performance at Osterreichring, the previous meeting, which saw him in contention for his first wooden spoon, this week at Jarama.  The good news was that his 14th grid slot was only one place worse than his previous best and being in the ‘E’ Final there was no hope of the wooden spoon! The bad news was that DHORC’s only 5 time Champion, Martin Chadwick, was in the ‘E’ with him, following car problems in qualifying!

Jonathon was using his dad’s car and had borrowed my hand controller and put both to good use fighting Martin all the way to the flag. With ten seconds to go we all actually thought he had blown it with an off but he was able to regroup and chase Martin down. Just as the power was switched off he passed Martin through one of Esses at the back of the circuit but then his car left the circuit.  The rule here was that to win the car should be on the track.  The only fair way to deal with this was to have a re-run just between Jonathon and Martin.  This time Jonathon was well in control (although you wouldn’t have known it with the way he was shaking with the adrenalin pumping through his body) taking the win by a lap and a half, Martin really struggling with his cars handling, but what a win for Jonathon! A big cheer went up and the two shook hands.

In the ‘D’ Final Jonathon’s main competitor was Shloke Anand but Jonathon was again able to take the win by over a lap. He was really on it now; another cheer rang around the room.

Things were now getting serious in the ‘C’ Final, with double Junior Champion Tom Chadwick, regular top ten racer Kevin Lye and double race winner Dave McPeake waiting for him.  After a minute or so Jonathon found himself in the lead yet again, but Dave was not going to make it easy for him and slowly but surely wore him down to move ahead of the field.  With 20 seconds to go Jonathon did manage to retain the lead, the room held its breath, to bin it with 15 seconds to go, the room groaned.  Then over the last 10 seconds Jonathon chased his quarry and as Martin Allsopp’s finger flicked the off switch Jonathon’s car moved past Dave’s (on the same 10th), the room erupting yet again, what an unbelievable Final!

In the ‘B’ Jonathon came back down to earth with a bump as his dad took his car back “Thank you very much” as he was in the same Final and as Jonathon’s car was not yet on the same performance planet.  He would finish 4th in this Final but this would still equate to 7th overall, seven places better than his previous best.  We had better all watch out when he gets his cars sorted!

Party Time at DHORC – 1May09

DHORC ran its first birthday party evening on Friday 1st May for Paul Mellor’s (a Rolls-Royce colleague for many years) 12-year-old son James Mellor. Sixteen of James’ friends descended on the Refreshment room and following a pizza birthday meal the racing began, as did the noise!  It was a total success with all having a great time; the Refreshment room withstanding the decibel level with flying colours!  Thanks to the support from Peter Barber, Paul Levers and Phil Rees for making the evening possible.

DHORC at AFX Racemaster 6 Hour Enduro Race

DHORC has entered two teams for the above race on Sunday 5th July at the Pinewood raceway in Wokingham, Berkshire. The 6-lane track will be built on Pinewood’s permanent 120ft 1/24th circuit, which should make racing interesting!

Le Mans 2009

There is already talk of a new Team USA racing at this year’s event, watch this space for more info! I can also see up to four teams from DHORC competing this year. This means with Team Chevrolet and Slotlab also pretty certain teams we should get a full house if Woodgreen or Principality of Sealand also enter!

14th April 2009

John Chell Departs!

Good news for John Chell is unfortunately bad news for DHORC.  John starts a new job soon in Northampton, which means that at least initially he will not be able to attend any further meetings in 2009.  Hopefully however once things have settled down and he has found a new home he may be able to attend again.  All will miss John, as he certainly added character to the club!

Brawn GP at DHORC

Geoff Peach is keeping up with contemporary F1 Teams by introducing his own version of the BRAWN GP Formula 1 car to DHORC.

New Racers at DHORC

Cliff Roythorne is back at DHORC for the first time as a Member since DHORC 91 way back in November 1997.  Having recently moved to Castle Donington it is great to have him back at the club.  While we have lost (temporarily I hope) one character in John Chell we have certainly regained another colourful character with Mr Roythorne. Welcome back Cliff

Cliff’s son Josh Roythorne also made his second appearance of the year as a Non-Member. I am sure we will see more of him before he joins the RAF later in the year.

Amy Oxspring friend of Katie Levers also made her debut run at DHORC on Tuesday night, hopefully she will be back with Katie at further meetings, as she clearly enjoyed herself.

Official Test 5th May

The next test session has been booked for 6pm on Tuesday 5th May in the normal Refreshment Room

24th March 2009

Non Members at Valencia (Street)

Former Member and regular Le Mans racer Andy Holliday graced us with his attendance on Tuesday night as well as Aaron’s younger brother James Wathey together with Tom MacKenzie, another of the former Leesbrook School gang; great to see them all there.

Next Corporate Event 1May09

Our second corporate event of the year will be a birthday party on 1May09.

Improved Stats

Paul Levers is working on revamping the stats available on a Club Night and in the magazines.  Paul suggested he could help with this as he has done many Access data base programs over the years. Any help to speed up production of the magazine and to provide more pertinent information to all on a Club Night will be grabbed by both hands!

Cliff Roythorne

Ex Member Cliff Roythorne has moved back to the area so may be a regular racer again!

Club Nights Rounds 11 & 12 Swap

Phil Rees is on hols on 26May09 so we have swapped the Indy meeting with the Albacete race.

10th March 2009

Luke Capewell Joins Junior Ranks

Welcome to Luke Capewell, our latest Junior Member.

Chassis Watering!

Paul Levers utilised a Lee Pateman recommendation to run (literally!) his new BSRT chassis under the tap on Tuesday night. Puts another meaning to the saying “I’ve flooded the motor!”

Busy March Includes Corporate Event

With three races and a corporate event on 17th, March is by far the busiest month of the year to date.  I’m sure there will be some time for some practice on the 17th if anyone needs any.

New Wooden Spoon Winner at DHORC 333

Claire Bullock beat Martin Allsopp to become the 4th Adult Member to win the Wooden Spoon, Tuesday. It was close at one point but Claire ensured victory with earlier crashes!

Six-Hour Race.

DHORC has applied for a place in the Pinewood 6 H:O Hour Race at Wokingham in July, the team has not been organised yet so please let me know if you are interested in racing at the event shown below.

10th February 2009

Jonathon Levers, DHORC’s 100th Adult Member!

Jonathon Levers made DHORC history on Tuesday night by becoming the Club’s 100th Adult Member. Jonathon also becomes the third member of the Levers family to race at DHORC joining his sister Katie Levers and father, Paul Levers.  Welcome Jonathon.

Unfortunately it looks like Gary Weston will not be continuing his membership this year due to outside pressures, hopefully he will be able to return in 2010.  He is hoping however to bring along his son Mark Weston to a few more meetings. This also means that Jonathon now joins Paul as his team-mate.

Martin Chadwick, DHORC 332 Paparazzi!

With me lording it in China Martin Chadwick kindly took up the role of Official DHORC Photographer on Tuesday night with some great results. At this rate I could put my camera away!

Kevin Lye became our 25th Adult and 32nd overall 2009 Club Member finishing a very creditable eighth at the 98 foot four lane replica of the Lincolnshire circuit.  Tuesday night saw 27 Members and five Non-Members in attendance, an average of 30 competitors racing at each of the three race meetings run so far this year.

Jamie Sismey and Liam Smith repeated their Round 2 victories, both continuing to lead their respective Championships

English Association of HO Racing Club Meeting at DHORC

EAHORC ran their first National race of 2009 at DHORC on Sunday 18th January 2009. Twenty racers ran at the event from as far away as Kings Lynn, London and Newbury including seven DHORC Members also in attendance. Kevin Lye (Mansfield) and Gwyn Williams (Long Eaton) brought along their families to their first HO meeting, with Kevin (a 1/32nd racer) winning one of the Enclosed wheel classes.  He is also looking at whether he will be able to fit in DHORC’s club nights with his shift work, which will hopefully mean we will have at least one more adult Member as a result of the EAHORC meeting.  Thanks to Deane Walpole for organising and running the event together with all competitors for making it a great day.

Josh Roythorne to Race at DHORC 331

Son of former DHORC Member Cliff Roythorne, Josh Roythorne will be competing at DHORC 331. Josh ran in his first DHORC Le Mans 24 Hour race in November 2008 and is keen to further his HO racing experience.  Again hopefully this will lead to another adult Member signing up for 2009.

13th January 2009

The second Club Night of 2009 saw 31 competitors with 23 Adults, 7 Junior Members and 1 Non-Member racing.  This was the most number of Members in attendance since the 31 Members that raced in March 2000 and the most number of Adult Members at a meeting since the 24 Adult Members that raced in March 1997!

The Junior Membership increased to 7 thanks to new Member Karl Jackson, while former Adult Member Geoff Peach started his first race of 2009 at Donington Park. Rob Crossland and Gary Weston also started their first races of the season. In fact Peter Barber was the only Member not to race as Lee Pateman was a last minute entry after taking his wife out for her birthday celebrations.  Two Members also celebrated their birthdays on the night, Simon Goodlip and Roy Masters who were presented with a very nice chocolate birthday cake that all enjoyed!

Two More Competitors Sign up for 2009

Both Allan McPeake and Simon Goodlip paid their 2009 Membership at the winter testing.

Alan Bullock Agrees to Manage DHORC Spares Shop

I am pleased to advise that as well as being DHORC’s Web editor, Alan Bullock has agreed to manage DHORC’s spares shop.  Alan has a much better understanding of what is required to run the shop than I (Nick Sismey) so I am sure everything that is required on race night will be available to keep everyone’s cars race tuned – thanks for your support Alan.
